Thanks Koji :)
Thanks for checking out the blog.

I used merino wool roving for the hair. I did a really basic tutorial of how I did it here: http://corsetkitten.com/blog/archives/4505

I hope that helps some and if you have any questions feel free to ask. :)

Hi Iz,

It's sad to say but you always have to look at the figures that companies are putting out and think about what you can do to make them more of your ideal/ acceptable to add to your collection. I'm big on customizing (in case you can't tell LOL).

I haven't done an afro yet but here's a link on how someone did an afro for her barbies. <a href="http://playbarbies.wordpress.com/2011/06/02/custom-rotini-or-halo-hair/" title="http://playbarbies.wordpress.com/2011/06/02/custom-rotini-or-halo-hair/" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">http://playbarbies.wordpress.com/2011/06/02/custom-rotini-or-halo-hair/</a>
You should be able to apply it to just about any doll with rooted (saran) hair.

Great review, I agree entirely. Funny enough I just got a few figures and there is one that can sit and close her legs just like a Takara. I guess that's QC serendipity.

Stunning. You did a fantastic job with this.

I had been pondering picking up some of these AA figures but the hair always turned me away. Now I see there is actually a lot of potential.
Any idea how I can root an afro?

Cheers

Fantastic work, corsetkitten! Love those dreads...and your paintwork is fantastic. Like you, I'm glad to have a darker complexioned female action doll. I'm hopeful that we'll see other sculpts (Triad has a couple in the works) that match the tone. And thanks for the shoutout, I'm glad you liked what I did.

The hair is the hair is the hair. It, like everything else on the figure for now is a moot point since I wiped the head clean the day after I posted the blog entry. I Just didn't think it was good enough to keep. My bad was in not updating the post to reflect the fact that this figure no longer exists. D'oh! :P

As it happens the only things I do to my dolls & action figures in photoshop is make the images clearer and brighter. So If you're trying to say something else please clarify your statement.

As it happens I don't like the hair.

For there is way too much IMO, it looks kinda Barbie. I'm no expert but my thoughts is that yeah shorten and thin.

I think you done a fabulous ( as usual) job on the face. Before it looked plain - I wouldn't say manly - which is normal. After she looks self confident and assertive .... well to me she does.

I find you're deliberations kinda curious though since you photoshop your figures anyway?

I suppose that's the great thing with dolls though, you can emphasise on different aspects as takes your imagination

Erica, you're right, I love her hair and individually all the features are gorgeous, but put together.... somehow it doesn't work like you'd expect it to! I think it's the strength of the jawline and the brow - they're overwhelming to the features in general.

I am sooo not a fan of dreadlocks. But you pulled off the scale really well (usually I find them too thick in 1:6 scale), I can appreciate the craftsmanship. And the tiny pearls and the yarn are a really nice touch.
And I agree, it's a huge improvement, she looks much more vibrant and lively. Great paint job! Too bad about the shiny face - do you think it's the material Triad used? I've never seen a reaction like that.
I can't wait to see her new wardrobe.

Thanks Syd! :D
And no, you are not alone in feeling like the default faces suck. I know a lot of people wax poetic (and aggressively!!!!!!) about how great the sculpts are...but imo they still need a lot of work.
