Getting rid of stuff is really hard... but I think the most important thing to remember is:
You can always find it again (unless it's OOAK, don't part with OOAK stuff you're unsure about!!!)

I always have a really hard time purging stuff, but when I do, I feel fantastic... and wonder why I had been so attached to it in the first place... so I hope you feel this way once all is said and done!!!

My heart honestly breaks for you. I know it can't be easy giving those things up knowing you had plans for them and will have to replace them. But all things happen for a reason and maybe you are destined to find something that will work even better with your sets. I hope you manage to sell it all at good prices so you can rebuild the collection when you are resettled over here in the states. :-)

Yes I agree, pet owners need to do their research. That would be the first thing I'd look into for sure. The woman I mentioned found out to late they needed more shots and there wasn't enough time to get their papers sorted before their move. I feel sorry for her and her husband having to leave them behind but as you said it was neglect on their part that they should have tried to avoid by doing their research and checking and rechecking everything was set. So kudos to you for being informed and being set on that front.

And I have to admit, I'm shocked it's so easy to get pets into the US. I mean I'm super glad so it won't be that big of a hassle for you, but it does make me a little nervous about what animals can potentially be bringing in. Especially living in a military town where people come back and forth from other countries all the time. Scary thought.

Anyway, I wanted to wish you luck with your sales and success in working out Wrenwood Hall.

Believe me Chelle, I don't leave anything to chance when it comes to getting the Cats sorted.
I consider the cats to be my family and I would not leave them behind (with friends or family--they're my responsibility) any more than I'd leave my husband.
*begin rant*
People don't always bother to research what they have to do in a move and unfortunately that impacts on their furry critters. It's unfortunate and IMO it's negligence on their part (and really, there's no reason for it).
*end rant*

It's a much easier process to take them back to the US than it was to get the originals (Max & Pudgy) to the UK. (That involved months of preparation, vaccinations, blood tests to prove the rabies titer, and paying for the USDA Vet to OK their paperwork for the flights etc.) All in all that was a nightmare.
It's a simpler process going from here to there--both cats need to be upto date on their vaccinations & microchipped (neither are a problem since they are anyway), vaccinated for rabies and a flight certificate saying they're healthy enough to get on the plane.

How exciting Erica! I know you must be overwhelmed but you can do it. If there is any advice I can give you it's actually non doll related. LOL! I saw one woman moving countries and she wanted to take her cats with her but didn't have enough time to arrange everything for her pets to go with her and she had to leave them behind with friends. So make sure you get the pets squared away asap. Just would hate for you to have to leave them behind. Looking forward to seeing what you've been up to. Everything happens for a reason, so this just means you will get settled over here in the states sooner and can set up your full rooms sooner. Yayyyyy!!! :-)

Wow Erica! That is soon, soon, soon!! No wonder you're freaking out! XD Still, that's great you've found some shipping options that might work for your dolly stuff - good for you! You can make it happen and I have no doubt you will make the transition with both your 1/6 stuff and sanity intact!! ^___^ I will be cheering you from the sidelines.

I really hope you'll get through this with your sanity intact! I never moved more than 150 km, but I witnessed one of my brothers moving back from UK to Germany and listened to stories from the other moving to South Africa. Both sounded like adventures I would want to avoid.
See it as a chance to make room for new stuff and exciting new projects. I really should go through my doll stuff, too... ;)

Don't be silly! You're welcome to comment any time! No one barges in here (except the spammers and I kick em out as soon as they post!) ;)

Thank you for your really lovely comments. :) And I started doing out some pretty scary repaints but you know, it really is true that you get better with practice. I'd recommend getting a knock off CG head and using it to practice on. Then your skills will improve and you can re-do your electra too! :D

Hello there - I'm sorry to barge in here, but I was Google searching CG Electra figures when I ran upon your blog. I just pulled mine out about 20 minutes ago -- she's been on display in my den/computer room for a while and is dusty as all-get-out but still in beautiful shape. Your repaint/reroot is....it's just jaw-dropping. I can't stop looking at the pictures. You did a FABULOUS job. It's always been a dream of mine to repaint and reroot (my few repaint attempts have been laughable at best lol, and rerooting seems so difficult..), and seeing what you came up with for Electra is awesomely inspiring.

Again, sorry for the intrusion, but I HAD to comment. She is absolutely beautiful, and definitely looks like the strong, intelligent, witty type to me - maybe of few words, but very profound ones when she speaks them. Lovely lovely job!

Oh I know! When I went to Miniatura a few years back I was astounded at the sheer amount of things available---but also struck by the attitude about anything other than the 1/12, 1/24, 1/48 and even 1/144.

I really have a difficult time understanding the snobbery & the general unwillingness to accept 1/6 scale. As a business person/ artisan who sells their work--wouldn't you think you'd be willing to expand out of the comfort zone when you see that there's a niche for it? I know I would.

And no Sally, there's absolutely NOTHING wrong with Fashion Dolls! Or Action Figures! :D

Yep! And I bet we're not the only 1:6'ers out there who're experiencing it! :(
Ah well, right? (anf thanks for the info on the movie/book. :)

I thought about trying the printing on fabric thing, but my printer isn't too happy just printing on paper so I have to find another route. I'm still thinking about painting it on fabric and trying to texture it in a way to make it look less plastic-y. My other option is to embroider or applique the smaller things (like the banners & pennants).

We'll see. I've seen some 1/12 people do cross-stitch but i don't have the eyesight or the patience for that!

Thanks Sally :)
The hair I can take credit for--but her shoes--not so much so. They're a pair of bratz shoes that I cut down in size, sanded, repainted and inserted cg foot pegs into.

Sooo true about the wide availability of 1/12th and scarcity of 1/6th! I've been to a few miniature shows/ fayres and there can be some snobbery about trying to find things in 1/6 which is considered fashion doll scale. There's nothing wrong with fashion dolls is what I say!!
