I’ve lately become enamored of the CY Girls that are made by Takara and also (a few) in conjunction with BBI. Anyone familiar with them will know that I came in on the tail end of the hobby, when the figures are hard and expensive to get. I really wasn’t too taken with the ones I had seen (Jun, etc) the main reason was I didn’t like the clunky body joints, the elbows sucked, and the torsos were just not my cuppa tea.
But then…. then I made the mistake of getting a 2.o cy girl…..
My first step on the slippery slope–and what really made the hook their claws into me was one by the name of Midori Washio. Yea I know, you can’t really tell what she looks like–under all that armor and crap.
I’m not sure what it is that I like so much… the paint job on her face is very minimal, and the expression is a simple one. I’m not so taken with the jagged hairstyle (although I suppose it was only a minimal item since it was meant to be crammed into a balaclava and have a helmet jammed on top of that?)
I also managed to snag an Ice and Aska off ebay for a very reasonable amount (I got the 2 of them for less than I paid for Midori). The plus side to them is that they do have the 2.o bodies. And Ice has a nice facial sculpt (which will be geting a repaint)
the bad side is that the clothing on both figures managed to stain the vinyl… Sooo..Ice has a blue ring around the upper neck (the area of her head that sat against her choker) and Aska has a red strip across her forehead). Not exactly what I was hoping for…
However, I did manage to shave it off Ice….Aska is a different kettle of fish and we’ll see tomorrow if the twin pines of maine stuff does any good. If it doesn’t then ASka’s body will go to someone else (* as much as I’d like to give it to one of my Midori heads the skin tone just isn’t a close enough match for my personal tastes)

Luckily for my (my ourse) I never had a 2.0 body in hand. I like the 1.0 well enough and it came definitely less expensive. But I understand your fascination… I’m very tempted by Midori. So every time I go to the Actionfigurado, I only take a limited amount of money with me and stick to it! There usually are many other great figures I want to have, so it actually saves me from buying the high-priced CY Girls. That and another fact – there is one dealer I will never buy a CY Girl from (but that’s another story).
About that red stain – try acne cream. The active ingredient should be Benzoylperoxide, I use a 10%-mixture. Smear izt onto the stain and let it sit in a well-lit place for at least 24 hours. If the stain is still visible, try again. And again. I used it to good effect on Miinas stained feet and on a childhood doll that I painted blue measles on with a ball pen. After more than 30 years she’s finally cured.
Ursula, I really have to say that I never thought I’d be snagged by these figures (or are they dolls??) And Midori does have a nice sculpt–no matter what people might say! I think it is a simple and clean sculpt and I can’t wait to see what I can do with her (is this the point I should admit that I bought 2 midoris in total, and trades/ bought an additional two heads? LOL!!
Well…I didn’t want to repaint my first one–there’s just something really sweet about her expression…and yes, honestly, each of the heads seems to be slightly difference in appearance!
I really have to say I couldn’t understand why people were so into the 2.0 bodies. I mean, I’d had an original Jun on a 1.5 and yea, it was ok, but the elbows, and shoulder joints always gave me trouble…not to mention the hips…..
so why bother? Now, I’m glad I did…and sort of wish I hadn’t and kept on thinking them so-so!!! (am soooo much poorer now!)
LOL
Thanks for the tip on stain removal…I may have to try that although I don’t care much for Aska’s face. I might end up using her for a medieval/fantasy character. I’m just not sure yet.
“(or are they dolls??)”
Don’t you ask me… I get into enough trouble trying to remember to refer to them as figures when I’m in male company.
