You remember Devin right? The he-she-not-quite-sure-gender-ambiguous doll from last week?
Well as I stated at the time I wasn’t that happy with the way Devin’s eyes had turned out. They’re gloppy & sloppy & just not that good. And one of the eyes seems to be going off on its own……
DEVIN [Before]
Repainting Devin is a tough call because sometimes it’s that impressionistic painting that gives some of my dolls their personalities….but I feel it’s also me being lazy. Since I don’t want to get into that habit (the same phenomena exists on Jillian’s eyes) I felt I needed to repaint Devin. And hope that I can keep that quirky vibe.
So….
This is the result of the attempted repaint. I don’t feel I caught the spark, but I am happier that the painting is cleaner (though you probably can’t tell from these photos).
What do you think?

There’s more glare in the after-pics, so you’re right. Are the eyes sealed in them and not in the before-pic?
I have the impression (could be the light reflecting in pic 3) that the eyes are smaller than before. I can’t say which one I prefer, but I’m not really interested in “he-she-not-quite-sure-gender-ambiguous” characters. I prefer the morally ambiguous ones.
S/he could go either way in my opinion – but what ever you decide, keep the hair. I love it.
Totally a she. Even with the repaint. I do like the repaint better than the first one and not because the first one was gloppy. Just looking at the character she seems tough, independent, tomboyish and not in the habit of thinking much about being anything but herself. The first set of eyes were too girly for such a character. The new eyes are not as girly yet to me she still looks female.
Great job! She’s an awesome doll!
Well Erica, you know my love for non conventional beauties, and I definitely see Devin as a her. She is definitely feminine, just not in the sense that the majority views her as. Great job on her
