So you might recall that  painted Claire a while ago….

I liked her eyes (although I did feel they were a tad large) but something about her face up really irritated me. This week while I have been trying to get back into doing repaints, I considered wiping her face and repainting her.
This is Claire: (who might be renamed)

I really didn’t want to since  her eyes had come out rather well. So instead I decided to try repainting her lips . She had bubble lips—and maybe that’s what was bothering me, I don’t know!

The thing with the old style C heads from Volks is that the lips/mouth area is very molded and fairly deep. I don’t do very well with it even if it is a favorite of mine (and I wish they’d done something more similar to it on the newest version of the C head).

One of the other issues I have with the old C head is that they also tended to be more conservatively rooted…so you ended up with more bald spots visible on them. Claire also had this problem.  So I decided that if I was going to work on her, I might as well do it right. So I rooted in some high and low lights into her head in an effort to plug up the most obvious bald spots. Gave her a boil perm to set the hair to lie down flat.

This is how she looks now, with the newly inserted hair & repainted lips.

The lips aren’t perfect but she’s suddenly looking a lot better to me, and I am not going to repaint her (at least not right now).

Of course, now I think I might rename her Chloe. It’s the name that keeps coming to mind when I think of or look at her.

  1. I like the new shape of the mouth, although I don’t particularly care for the colour – I like the first one better. But what I really love is what you’ve done with the hair! Almost makes me want to reroot Blaze i a darker colour.

  2. I like the new mouth a lot. Before she looked like someone had punched her and given her a fat lip. You are right about the eyes. They are gorgeous but HUGE!

  3. I agree – I really didn’t care for the mouth before, there was just something… odd… about it. I don’t know exactly what, but I think it may have been the corners? Not too sure, but I’m happy you didn’t wipe her eyes! They are fantastic and beautiful…

Her new mouth is cute, too – a little more sassy with more personality :D

  4. Thanks everyone for the feedback!

Ursula I think you should try to find a spare Blaze head and do re-root it in darker colored hair. Just to see. IMO it would suit her! I’m not totally sold on the lip color of the repaint—but for now it will do. I’m just happy I think the lips look better!

Kitty “the punched lip” look wasn’t what I’d gone for originally (and I thought bee-stung might have explained the bubble lips LOL) Glad you like the improvement!

SamThanks! It was that exact thing–that weird little something about it that I think made me not like the doll much. Now, with the new lips–I can look at her and not feel disgruntled! Which is good  And I think maybe the new mouth doesmake her look more feisty

  5. Hello there! I’m sorry I didn’t find your site sooner, it’s GREAT!
Thank you for visiting my blog, I haven’t checked in there in a while and only just found you.

I can’t wait to find time to read all of your posts!
All the best from one ex-New Yorker to another!

  6. Wow, the new lips change her so much! I love them, and I think the color really suits her, actually– it makes her eyes seem brighter. The eyes are gorgeous! I know what you mean, sometimes there’s just SOMETHING that rubs you the wrong way– I’m glad you were able to change her enough to make you happy.
