As mentioned in the previous post I’m working on getting a new roomset done. It’s the cafe (currently un-named–and any suggestions are welcome!).  Mark has done a smashingly, wonderful job (heh, who says there’s no upside to loud obnoxious neighbors partying until the early hours? They make him want to stay in the shed! Woo!) So please note although the photos look like crap, the work he’s done is good stuff!

Ok, so here are the questions to keep in mind as you look at these pics:

(these are questions I’d really love some feedback on folks!)

I plan on doing the back wall (the one behind the counter) a darkish red.

  • Do you think that the other walls should be some color other than white? What color(s) would you think could go with it? (the cabinets will all be done in faux wood tones)

Another question:

  • Do you think that there needs to be some sort of “casual” seating area? Ie a couch & maybe a coffee table & arm chair? IF so–which table(s) would you get rid of to fit it in? (assume the couch is appx the size of the my scene coffee shop set one)

Yet one more:

Although Quinlan has a lot of paranormal & unexplained occurrences – it isn’t outwardly admitted that “magic” as such exists. I’d like to give a nod to that in the Cafe’s name but am finding it difficult.  Is that important?

The names I’ve come up with so far (and have been suggested to me) include:

Cafe Fantome1

Fortean Cafe2

The Caffeinatrix (yea I know I made the word up)

Bats Coffeehouse

Steep’n'Brew

Brewing Grounds

1Fantome is supposed to mean Ghost in french (so this would nudge me toward thinking the cafe is haunted by some sort of spirit).

2Fortean is in reference to Charles Fort

OK and now for the photos! (the furniture is roughly in the places I expect it would be when it’s finished)

and one from sort-of eye level (sorry, I couldn’t be bothered to stand Lori up straight for the photo!)

So….thoughts? C’mon folks!

  1. Looks fantastic so far. I think you should hold off on the name of the cafe until you’re done with all of the decorating. Depending on the way it *looks* you might want to pick a name that matches it’s appearance. Having a cozy, warm looking cafe might not quite match with something as funky as Bats House. Which reminds me, we totally have a Spiderhouse Cafe in Austin and it’s pretty funky too.

You need sofas! Ditch the purple tables. They’re too big anyway. Never known a coffee shop where four people could put all their legs under the table without inadvertently playing footsies with each other. XD In the corner opposite the payphone, put a sectional or a sofa/loveseat with coffee table there.

    DO IT!

  2. Wow ~ I love it! The alcoves especially are just so fantastic  It’s great you’ve decided to just do it – and then have got on and got it built. Great foundations laid – I have every faith the coffee shop is gonna be fantastic – and what a great set for more monologues.

  3. Well, crap, I got here too late, lol. Nat said every single thing I was going to say! I’d say for sure add a seating area with sofa etc, and ditch the larger tables to make room– they’re more restaurant than cafe anyway. Just make Mark build you a couple more small rounds– he won’t mind! I love, love, loooove the built in shelves and payphone alcoves. Sigh. So cool. I’d hold off on naming until it’s done too, so you’ll know what you’re naming. As far as colors, I’m sooo the wrong person for advice, I have such commitment issues when it comes to choosing colors, lol! SGlad I could be absolutely no help at all! It looks SO awesome, though! You’re amazing!

  4. Thanks everyone for chiming in with your comments & thoughts on it!

Ok, ok…I’ll make a seating area…Thought that means that I’ll have to swap around the door/window wall to it’s opposite position. And it’ll be a small couch (2 seater) and a chair. More than that and there’ll only be 2 tables fitting in the room! (doh!)

I’ll hold off on the naming for now…I’m hoping something will come to me when it’s closer to done. :)

Sorry, the comment form is closed at this time.
