I know! So long in finally getting the photos up & on the blog for you to see!I’m not really happy with the photos but better them than nothing at all I suppose.
Some further info:
All aspects of her outfit were made to be removable. After all, a steampunk adventuress she may be–but Natalia might not always want to dress that way!
Her ensemble consists of:
- Raygun (I need to actually take a pic of it alone)
- Goggles
- Necklace
- Cage crinoline
- Camisole-type top
- Panties/bloomers
- Underskirt
- Overskirt (lined with biscuit silk)
- Underbust corset
- Spats & shoes
The majority of the outfit was sewn from 100% silk (biscuit color, teal) and the underskirt was made of a coppery/bronze polyblend. Her cage crinoline was made from copper & brass with a bit of leather.
I really wanted to make her a lot grittier but I struggled a lot because I don’t think that my mental image of a steampunk female adventurer would go over so well with many of the convention goers…so I tried to find a happy medium between the two…Not really sure that I did.
I lost patience with the FR body’s lack of tension & ability to hold a pose–but you know what they say; “One man’s meat is another man’s poison” and in this case, as much as I admire some of the headsculpts that Integrity puts out I feel I’m firmly going to avoid any that I can’t re-body.

That rocks!! I love seeing your custom dolls!
Great stuff
She looks gorgeous Erica
Definitely shows the amount of work you put into her
Great color choices and everything goes great together with that head
Ooh fabulous! I’ve checked back so many times hoping to see a glimpse of her… And she doesn’t disappoint that’s for sure. The outfit is absolutely EXQUISITE! It puts Azone stuff to shame it looks that detailed.
Simply gorgeous! Wonderful outfit and terrific accessories… although now I’m curious as to what she would have looked like if you’d gone with your first instinct.
Thanks everyone
@ Sally I don’t think Azone’s got anything on me (their sewing construction is definitely better!) but I’m thrilled you think it looks as good!
@Emi I’m still debating working on a more true to concept steampunk custom (though it won’t be using a fashion royalty doll as a base) if I get around to doing it I’ll be sure to send you a note so you can see
She looks fantastic. I still think she needs more leather, but ah, FR people… what can you do? XD
Wow, you did an incredible job! I love her. All I can say is, would she be your choice to feature on “Artist of [Undetermined Timeframe],” or would you prefer another project? Because I really want to share you on my blog! (As if you can’t tell.)
Thanks Diana, but I think I’d rather do it using one of my “regular” customs (possibly the one I’m planning on starting next) if that’s ok with you?
Wow, that’s a lot of work, and you pulled it off well. That crinoline’s gotta be murder when you get tired of standing. Glad I don’t have to wear it. :wassat: Nicely done.
This is so amazing! I have zero patience when it comes to sewing, and you obviously have TONS! Look at all the details!!! I just want to grab it and look at everything close up  I love the color combo, I forget what you chose originally, but this looks fabulous. I don’t really know this doll, but it really looks like this outfit is perfectly suited for her. And ten million bonus points for making it removable! It’s so maddening when you have to tear things up to get them off. I know this was a ton of hard work, but it turned out wonderfully. Bravo, Bravo, Bravo!
I’m really curious to know what your mental image was, too.
@ Stephanie – thanks. I wouldn’t want to have to wear the cage crinoline either.
@C – Heh. you think I have patience? LMAO!! No, I just had a vision & the plain orneriness to see it through to completion. Definitely don’t have much patience (weird but it seems the older I get the less I have!) Thank you for the sewing compliments…It looks good but I know there are so many issues with it–the overskirt totally didn’t turn out how I wanted to (I had to wire the bottom of it too), but that was partly my fault since I didn’t have much fabric to work with.
And thanks, some people asked me why I bothered to make the clothing removable—and I think it gives the doll & collector that extra chance to change things around & get more use out of it. I don’t find anything as frustrating as getting a doll/figure & then finding the clothes were sewn on, glued on, or otherwise attached in a way that would wreck the doll if you wanted to change the outfit. :wassat:
“I’m really curious to know what your mental image was, too.”
Give me time & I’ll get that one made. I’d actually like to do a couplke of my volks dollfies done that way (as a student group of steampunks) & I want to do a few CGs that way too. Heh.
I am officially jealous of the person who gets to take her home! She is amazing Erica and you need to pat yourself on the back for a job well done. I can’t believe that’s all handmade, it looks factory done…that’s so meant to be a compliment hope it came off that way.
I wish I had half your skills, I truly do.
She’s awesome, Erica! The details are amazing. :w00t:
@Chelle – Awww thanks! I’m glad you like how she came out. And I understand the compliment (heck, I’d happily buy some from a factory if they came out half as nice!)
You keep working at it and you’ll have my skills–I didn’t just wake up and have them one day
@Wolfmammy – Thank you! Glad that the details I put in are worth the time they took to do.
Awesome outfit!!!
Thanks Mick!
 I can only say one name: “haute couture”
Sólo puedo decir una denominacìón: “ALTA COSTURA”
