The last couple of weeks I haven’t been feeling all that rrawr about the hobby.  I like love it but sometimes I walk a thin edge between that and burning out.  I’m not burnt out yet, and maybe, just maybe this whole thing with my eye has been good for me in the respect of it making me take a look at something else in the interim. I’ve been playing around with illustration again (old school, pen & ink) and edging toward experimenting with illumination as well.

But whatever.

I am going to try to be back on track this week & by that I mean having another Friday Monologue up & ready to share at the end of this week. I’m pretty confident that as long as I manage my computer & camera time wisely I can do it without causing my eye any additional strain. (Fingers crossed for luck)

  1. Crossing my fingers for luck, too. My right eye flutters when I’ve been online too long. And I get a headache. Good luck with your managing your computer time. :ermm:

    • Thanks! It’s not the computer time so much as it is doing anything (for more than an hour) that I need to really focus my eyes on. I’m breaking things up now with 15 minute breaks and that seems to help some.
*fingers crossed that the eye keeps behaving!*

  2. I think it’s great that this time away from dolls has given you time to look into older hobbies. I’d love to see your artwork if you decide to show it some day. Sometimes it’s a good thing to take a break and try other things so we don’t get burned out on other things.

I can’t wait for the next Friday Monologue, I’m addicted to them. ;-) Just be sure to nurse that eye ok. :-)

    • Chelle it’s a good thing–although of course, when you can’t do something that’s totally the only thing you want to do!

If I can I’ll be doing 2 FM episodes for this week. But eitherway, this week there will be FMs!!

  3. What I like about this hobby is it’s potential diversity, which helps avoid burn out. Although getting time to do anything at the mo’ would be good.

Anyway mine has numerous facets which I fall onto, if I get bored or uninspired by any of the others. So there is:-
Story telling – Simply the narrative contemplation.
Set and costumes – Setting up the scenes
    Photography
    Photoshopping
    Animating
    Picture story-ing
    Posting.
Action Man shopping – My favourite :o )
Repairing old Action Man stuff, for sale.
    Ebaying old stuff.

You might think that there is a process here, but there isn’t. There are various things ticking away and I just fall on them when it suits me. of course I don’t have deadlines either, but I know you can feel the pressure as soon as you do – even if it’s just a mental one.

Still looking forward to the next installment when it arrives. Been looking at your older stuff in the interim, quite enjoyable :o )

    • You’re right that the hobby has so many different areas that you can concentrate on at any given time. It’s very flexible that way, and that’s one of the reasons I still play in the hobby.

I’m glad you’ve had a chance to look at some of the older stories (which I’m going to be so glad to do better ones of in the future!)
