I started this with the best of intentions! I was going to make some plants to use in my roomsets & dioramas. (Fail photos to follow below)
I’m sure part of it is my demand for high quality work on things I make. Probably. But the first round of plant making is definitely a FAIL!  :straight:

  • First mistake was that I started out trying to make plants out of polymer clay. For my current state (a deficit of patience) this was probably a bad decision. But I forged on ahead. The outcome was horrendous and went immediately into the trash. (waste of expensive clay IMO, which pissed me off).
  • It took a lot of effort for—a poor sample. Very disappointing! xD

So I then went to plan B: try working with the stuff I know, eh!?

Anyway—Here’s the plant:

plant-1-d plant-1-e

In retrospect I can think of some steps in my process that if I tweak or alter them will give me a better plant at the end of it. So when I can build back up a bit of my patience reserve I’ll give it another go.

Anyway, I’ve decided I’m taking off tomorrow and Thursday and going to do nothing except doll-related stuff.  Maybe work on a mini photostory (not x-mas related) and get the meat of another post ready (I want to comment on clothes of all things!)

Until tomorrow then!

  1. OK whatever. This plant is NOT a fail plant. It looks very nice and it’s better than what I see for sale at some places. The leaves remind me of African Violet leaves (just a little bit more bikini waxed LOL). You should try to make a mini african violet bloom out of polymer and stick it in there… see how it looks.

Did I ever tell you how much I love your couch? *___*

*sigh* When I read the sentence about the mini photostory, I thought it read “(not x-rated)” Ah geez. :P :D :D :D

  2. LOL!!
“thought it read “(not x-rated)” Ah geez.”
   Oh, you know me better than that! ALL the raunchy, adult-only photostories aren’t posted about on this blog! ;)

Actually, it’s funny about the african violet idea–it’s kind of what I had in mind (sort of crossed with a philodendron…bastard-plant LOL) I’ll try what you suggest on the next one. We’ll see what happens! (I still think it’s a fail though).

And thank you about the couch…I think it’s probably my 2nd most favorite piece of furniture I’ve made!

  3. Well, I WAS going to say that this plant reminded me of an african violet, but I can see that’s already been covered, lol. I think it’s a fab little plant, and if this is what you consider a fail, I can’t wait to see the next version! I have the same perfectionist tendencies though, so I know how it feels. Even if someone tells you it’s wonderful, it doesn’t do much to help. (But I think it’s wonderful anyway :P )

Waaaaaaay looking forward to a photostory! (Especially if it’s x-rated, lol) Awesome!

  4. You can always make better plants (believe me…), but on this one I have to agree with milk and smidge girl – it’s not a fail. For a first try I think it’s really a cute little accessory that’ll make a great addition to any set. I’m looking forward to see what you will achieve with a little more practise!

  5. The plant in the photo looks fine to me. Your painting – darkish green with lighter green inner part – makes it work for me. One of the inexpensive doll furniture sets comes with a plastic plant in a bright medium green with little to distinguish itself as a plant. Your trial is light-years better than that one.

That sofa is excellent. Bright color is nice, but the texture and the scale – perfect.

Thanks for sharing. I look forward to your clothing post.

  6. Awww..thanks everyone for the vote of confidence! :D I’m glad that you guys view it less harshly than I do.

I’ll have to agree with you D7ana that my plant is better than most of what comes with barbie sets–which I guess is a step in the right direction! I initially tried to do it with less paint but it didn’t look defined enough so there’s actually about 4 layers of paint involved. And thank you for the comment on my couch. I loved the pattern when I saw it in the off cuts bin, and learned when I was making it how much of a pain it was to match the pattern!).

Ursula Thank you! I definitely agree I can do better–it’s just a case of figuring out how and what to change in my process.

C I’ll see what I can do on the photostory front. I’ve already promised to do one to Nat, so I’ll work on getting somewhere with that over the weekend. Not promising anything raunchy though  (maybe a new years psy for that LOL) And you’ve hit it square on the head about the perfectionist tendency. :D

  7. Late to the party, but I just wanted to say that I like your fail plant. “Your garden of fail is blooming!” Feel free to send unwanted plants my way, hint hint.
