How large a collection of doll clothes other people have? And how do they store it?
I find myself thinking about that when I hit the fashion doll boards and see the vast amount people have on hand to dress their dolls in. I swear that most of those dolls have better wardrobes than people!
This of course brings us to my clothing collection and how I organize it (or more like the trouble I had with that) . I thought for laughs, I’d take a couple of photos of my personal doll clothes collection. And how my storage of it has changed.
Originally I started out with zip lock baggies–each character got their own and all the clothes were parceled out as they came into the collection. Of course, my favorite figures always got first dibs on the good stuff!!
But…I’m an impatient person & it became a hassle digging through a baggie trying to find exactly what I wanted–and or–figuring out what I wanted!
I’ve recently started working on a better way of organizing & storing the clothes so that I’ll be able to access them:
- easily
- quickly
- with minimum disturbance of other things
- in a way that was easy to store
But before I managed to do that…it devolved into chaos (see photo below) if you look closely you can still see some of the original zip lock baggies in the baskets.
Now they look like this:
I’m pleased with it!
Easy to find a particular piece, easy to sort them (all short sleeves in one, all dresses in another, professional clothes in another) etc. When I get around to it I’ll make labels for the sides of them–and store them on a shelf! (I’m psyched about that!!) The best part was how cheap it was to do this–the folders/boxes/ came from the pound shop. What a deal!
Looking at all this stuff all I can say is hey, I’m still a kid! I need doll clothes! LOL!

That’s totally awesome. I wouldn’t have thought about doing that. I have one of those containers but… I bought it in Japan. I dunno if I can find those here in America?
Anyways, it’s cool that you can see everything right from the start. My question is can you keep them all organized and junk when you’re rifling through them during photoshoots? XD
So so so… you gonna show us your clothing collection? You already have so much better clothes than I do. *jealous*
If I can find them in the pound shop here (dollar store) you should be able to find them–but keep an eye for them in the stationary section. They are called “document folders” or “document boxes” so that might help find them.
And yep. It’ll be way easier to keep them in order now for shooting photos. Partly because they aren’t in a particular order (just type– ie long or short sleeve). We’ll see though.
And Ok, I’ll take a photo of my clothing collection next week if you really want me to–but you’ll have to post a photo of your clothing collection too!
Fair?
Neat! (In both senses of the word ;-D) That’s a good idea to separate the short-sleeves from the long-sleeves, etc.
I store doll clothes several places. Dolls with good boxes like the Mixis or Susies, I keep the individual doll’s clothes with the doll. The few dolls I still have in old Barbie cases, their clothes are there, too. The bulk of my doll and action figure clothes though are divided by gender in plastic bins. A few winter coats for the adult guys are in a separate plastic shoebox.
Someday I’d like to separate the clothes between spring-summer and fall-winter, children, teenagers, working adults, older adults. Someday …
Oooh, these are cool! I don’t think I’ve ever seen containers like that before, but that works really well. Really the best solution I’ve seen. Right now I’m using the old ziplock bag system– Girl clothes, guy clothes, shoes, jewelry, etc. It helps that I haven’t collected much yet,
I’m stunned when I see some people’s doll clothes collections! (Like yours, lol) My system is pretty much a mess– as in I have to dump everything out to find what I’m looking for. I’m already planning the first annual Doll Overhaul in 2010!
This is soo great! I really need to see this! I have a ton of stuff in ziploc bags but it wasn’t working. I couldn’t think of how to handle it all! Thanks for posting!
